Industry specialisms
The college strengthens employer awareness and engagement across key T-level programmes, including business management and administration, health (adult nursing) and education (early years), where industry input is vital to shaping skilled, work-ready learners.
It is particularly focused on developing partnerships in T-level science (lab technician) and T-level digital support services, where students access cutting-edge facilities, mentoring and meaningful industry placements that reflect real world demands.
The college also engages with businesses on its Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 programmes, and welcomes support of any organisation that wants to work with it.
Through its award-winning Project Search, industry designed T-levels, sector front-runner NextGen VFX and community-based engagement, Gateway works with local and national industry partners, from SMEs to corporates, across sectors.
The careers and work experience team build strong relationships with employers to ensure that they are fully supported in their expectations and ability to host placements and collaborate with our young people on their career development journeys.
Key facilities and capabilities
Gateway College is based in the Hamilton area of the city on a modern, purpose-built campus.
Facilities, resources, and teaching specialisms mirror industry-standard practises, including:
- A simulated hospital ward and triage room
- A pre-school/early years centre with fully sensory room
- Classrooms equipped with smart technology and interactive software
- State-of-the art games design, media, and IT studios with podcast technology, , editing suites, robotics labs, 3D printing, CAD/CAM equipment and networking platforms
- Industry standard science laboratories
- Art and design studios equipped for painting and sculpture, fashion and textiles, ceramics, printmaking, jewellery making, 3D animation and product design
- Business, law, criminology and humanities classrooms that reflect professional workspaces
- Award-winning Project Search and Entry to Work workshops replicate industry settings. Students spend one day a week in college and four days on industry placement in areas such as hospitality, healthcare, housekeeping or catering

Case Study: Westcotes GP Practice
We are delighted to have begun our partnership with Gateway College, welcoming students who have become a valuable part of our team.
Their fresh ideas and enthusiasm have brought new ways of working that benefit everyone -management, staff and patients alike.
The students gain real-life experience by supporting patients directly, while patients benefit from the added attention and care provided by this new generation of professionals.
Our existing staff have also found the students’ involvement to be a great support, particularly in easing workloads and enhancing teamwork across departments.
In addition, the students have made a significant contribution behind the scenes, assisting with administrative tasks and helping to reduce backlogs, offering help not only within the clinical and scientific areas but across the broader operation of our service.
One of the greatest advantages of this collaboration is that it spans an entire year, allowing us to plan ahead effectively and integrate the students’ roles in a meaningful, sustainable way.

The Department for Education is responsible for shaping education and skills policy to ensure equal opportunity and drive economic growth.
As the policy home of T-levels, colleges are keen to lead the way in offering industry placements within government.
